On October 21, 1974, The Wiz premiered at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore. Since then, it has become one of the most recognizable stage plays on Broadway, and a staple in American culture. Being an early example of the power of Black creativity, the original production won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. 50 years
